LOCKRIDGE, Frances, and LOCKRIDGE, Richard
Killing the Goose
Philadelphia, J.B. Lippincott Company, 1944. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Blue cloth with orange spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 254pp. Near fine/very good. Jacket a bit edgeworn, with miniscule edge chips at spine head/tail. Tight and quite nice second printing of the eighth title in the popular series of 27 lighthearted detective novels begun in 1950 and concluding in 1964 featuring Mr. and Mrs. North -- so popular they became the subject of film, radio and the stage. This sharp copy bears two interesting autograph additions: Front flyleaf bears two heavy stock, matching 5" X 3" cards: Top card is signed boldly in black ballpoint by Alfred De Liagre (1904-87, who produced and directed the 1941 Broadway stage production "Mr. and Mrs. North"), dating it 23 February 1983 at upper right, and lower card is signed large and bold in blue fineline by Virginia Grey (1917-2004, who appears in the 1942 film version of the same name), dating it 14 April 1994 at upper right. Laid in loose are both original signature transmittal envelopes. .
